Summary

Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2024 Cybertruck vehicles. Excessive electrical current can cause the front windshield wiper motor controller to fail.

Remedy

Tesla service will replace the wiper motor, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 18, 2024.

Chronology :

– On February 2, 2024, Tesla Service identified early wiper motor failures on certain affected vehicles.

– From February 2, 2024, to February 28, 2024, Service recovered 20 wiper motors for Engineering to inspect and perform root cause and failure analyses.

– From February 28, 2024, through June 4, 2024, the analyses performed in conjunction with the Tier 1 (Valeo) and Tier 2 (USI) suppliers uncovered damage to the PCB (12U2 gate driver) from a functional test by the Tier 2 supplier that applied excessive current to the component.

– In parallel, on May 28, 2024, the Tier 1 supplier implemented a corrective action to eliminate the original functional test and adopt a new functional test using a lower current.

– From June 4, 2024, through June 12, 2024, Tesla reviewed production records to understand the possible scope.

– On June 12, 2024, Tesla made a determination to voluntarily recall the affected vehicles.

– As of June 12, 2024, Tesla is not aware of any collisions, injuries, or deaths relating to this condition.
