Recall work performed by uncertified technicians could lead to unsafe conditions or voided warranty provisions. Condition Certain Model S vehicles were equipped with a curtain airbag that may not have been assembled to specifications. REASON FOR THIS RECALL The inflators in certain side curtain airbag assemblies may not have been assembled to specifications, potentially impacting performance. A delayed or otherwise improper deployment of the side curtain airbag in a crash could increase the risk of occupant injury. WHAT TESLA WILL DO At no charge to you, Tesla Service will replace the side curtain airbags. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO Please schedule a service appointment through your Tesla mobile app. Alternatively, if you wish to contact your nearest Tesla Service Center or require technical assistance, please visit www.tesla.com/findus or call 1-877-79- TESLA (1-877-798-3752). For awareness, the replacement will take approximately 40 minutes. The repair and the inspection may be completed by Tesla Mobile Service where available. The weight values suggested that an additional spacer plate component may have been installed, resulting in an airbag assembly that did not meet specifications. – On February 15, 2022, Tesla reviewed the supplier’s findings, including the recommendations made by the supplier’s product safety committee as to the condition’s potential impact on airbag performance. – Also on February 15, 2022, Tesla reviewed parts consumption records to identify a population of affected vehicles that were potentially impacted by the condition. A recall determination was made the same day. – As of February 23, 2022, Tesla is not aware of any warranty claims, crashes, injuries, or deaths related to this condition. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-104 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Tesla will replace the affected side curtain airbag on all affected vehicles. Tesla does not plan to include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification about pre-notice reimbursement to owners since all of the involved vehicles remain covered under the new vehicle warranty. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The replacement airbag was assembled with an inflator with a correct number of components that meet specifications whereas the recalled airbag was assembled with an inflator with an additional component that did not meet specifications. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The supplier added an additional weight inspection to reject any inflator assembly that falls outside the specified value range. Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : All Tesla stores and service centers will be notified on or shortly after February 23, 2022.
