Summary
Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling one 2022 Model X vehicle. A body structure reinforcement bracket was not installed at the second-row seat. As such, this vehicle fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 207, “Seating Systems” and 210, “Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages.”
Remedy
Tesla will replace the vehicle, free of charge. The recall was completed April 28, 2022. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752.

Chronology of Noncompliance Determination
- On February 25, 2022, as part of a handful of pre-production trial builds of 5-seater variants of Model X vehicles, the subject vehicle was manufactured according to then-current design specifications without the body reinforcement bracket.
- On March 3, 2022, prior scheduled compliance testing demonstrated that the vehicles with the then-current design does not comply with the minimum loading requirements of FMVSS 207 and FMVSS 210. Based on this finding, all pre-production trial vehicles, including the subject vehicle, were placed on a containment hold to prevent release from the factory until further assessment and any necessary rework were completed.
- On March 4, 2022, further compliance testing with the body reinforcement bracket demonstrated compliance with the minimum loading requirements of FMVSS 207 and FMVSS 210. Accordingly, design specifications were updated to include the bracket.
- On March 10, 2022, the updated design specifications were implemented in production and all vehicles in production were retrofitted with the bracket. The handful of pre-production trial build vehicles, including the subject vehicle, were also identified for bracket installation prior to release from the factory.
- On March 21, 2022, due to an operational oversight, only the subject vehicle was released from the factory without the bracket installed.
- Between March 21, 2022, and March 31, 2022, the subject vehicle followed the normal customer vehicle delivery process and was delivered to a customer on March 31, 2022.
- On April 6, 2022, based on an audit review of manufacturing records, Quality was notified that the subject vehicle was delivered to a customer without the bracket installed.
- Beginning on April 7, 2022, Sales attempted to contact the customer. The matter was also escalated to Production leadership.
- On April 9, 2022, the concern was further escalated to relevant Engineering and Homologation teams, who initiated a review of manufacturing records, the suspected root cause, and the vehicle’s compliance to FMVSS 207 and FMVSS 210.
- On April 11, 2022, Tesla completed a risk assessment and confirmed the root cause and noncompliance. A recall determination was made. Tesla also contacted the customer and explained the safety risk.
