Summary
Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2023 Semi trucks. The electronic parking brake valve module (PVM) may fail to move into the park position when the parking brake is activated.
Remedy
Tesla service will replace the PVM, free of charge. All affected vehicles were repaired by April 10, 2023. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla’s number for this recall is SB-23-33-001.

Replace Parking Brake Valve Module
Condition
Certain Semi trucks are equipped with a parking brake valve module that may intermittently not allow the operator to engage or disengage the parking brakes.
NOTE: The performance of the air brake system is not affected. Operators should monitor the side console parking brake switches and confirm the LEDs match the intended parking state per the Tesla Semi Operator’s Manual.
- If the valve does not allow the operator to disengage the parking brakes, the LEDs will remain on, indicating that the parking brakes have not disengaged.
- If the valve does not allow the operator to engage the parking brakes, the LEDs will remain off, indicating that the parking brakes have not engaged.
Correction
Replace the parking brake valve module.

Procedure
Replace the parking brake valve module (refer to Service Manual procedure 3309020021).
Chronology :
– On February 13, 2023, Bendix first communicated to Tesla their Safety Committee’s determination to file a recall for the involved component based on field issues Bendix observed from their customers.
– On February 14, 2023, Tesla met with Bendix to review the issue in more detail and discuss Bendix’s recall determination. Shortly thereafter, Bendix filed a 573 Safety Recall with NHTSA for the component in question.
– From February 14 to March 17, 2023, Tesla investigated the root cause and completed a risk assessment of the impact that the condition introduced in affected Tesla Semi trucks.
– On March 17, 2023, Tesla completed its investigation, and determined to file a voluntary recall.
– As of March 24, 2023, Tesla has not identified any warranty claims, crashes, injuries or deaths that may be related to such conditions.

Description of the Defect : Certain Tesla Semi trucks are equipped with a supplier-provided electronically controlled parking brake valve module that may intermittently fail to transition when the parking brake is engaged or disengaged, which could then result in the parking brakes not being set or released.
