Summary
Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2023 Model X vehicles equipped with a full self-driving computer 4.0 and running software release version 2023.2.200. Weak camera signal strength may prevent the rearview image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility.”
Remedy
Tesla has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. All affected vehicles have been remedied. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752.

– On February 28, 2023, Tesla began investigating a vehicle in which the back-up camera stream had failed.
– From February 28, 2023, through March 28, 2023, Tesla conducted test and investigation activity on the problem vehicle, suspect components as well as assessment on the vehicle fleet.
– On March 9, 2023, in parallel to the ongoing investigation, Tesla began deploying to the vehicle fleet an over-the-air software update with the remedy described below.
– On March 29, 2023, Tesla completed its investigation. A voluntary recall determination was made on the same day.
– As of April 5, 2023, Tesla has identified 2 warranty claims (received on March 7 and 8, 2023) that may be related to the condition described above. Tesla is not aware of any crashes, injuries or deaths that may be related to this condition.

Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Software release 2023.2.201 or later corrects the condition and ensures
that the rearview image display complies with FMVSS 111 S5.5. Software release 2023.2.201 began over-the-air (“OTA”) deployment to the vehicle fleet on March 9, 2023. As of April 5, 2023, all affected vehicles installed software release 2023.2.201 or a later release.
Owners of affected vehicles only need to install OTA software release 2023.2.201 or a later software release, which have all deployed OTA at no cost to owners. No service visit is necessary, and no further action is necessary from owners whose vehicles are equipped with software release 2023.2.201 or a later software release. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Tesla does not plan to include a statement in the Part 577 owner notification about pre-notice reimbursement to owners because there is no paid repair relating to the underlying condition and owners received the remedy free of charge with an OTA software release.
Software release 2023.2.201 or later amplifies the backup camera signal to ensure signal connectivity, so that the rearview image is displayed in compliance with FMVSS 111 S5.5.
Software release 2023.2.201 was introduced in production on March 9, 2023. Similar vehicles that were not yet delivered were updated to software release 2023.2.201 or a later release prior to delivery. Recall Schedule :
